ALCTS (Association for Library Collections & Technical Services) dodeljuje besplatna "sedišta" na online kursevima za bibliotekare iz zemalja u razvoju.Grant se ne odnosi samo na diplomirane bibliotekare, već na sve koji rade kao bibliotekari, kao i studente bibliotekarstva.

Dr. Susan Matveyeva, head of the group that is offering the ALCTS distance learning classes explained the current situation this way:
“We received over 30 applications for one free seat. Our procedure has been changed – we have a waiting list now and will open registration again after we satisfy the eligible applicants on the list. The waiting list will be kept for one year. The Award Committee, ALCTS Office, and instructors agreed to award extra seats for international librarians if the number of students (including paid and free seats)does not exceed 21. Also, instructors provide an additional chat session for international students trying to follow their local time (for us it is the night or early morning).”
Registration for the course that begins in Feb. 2010 closed on January 7, 2010.
So, in view of the popularity of the courses, I recommend that interested librarians should frequently monitor the ALCTS registration and information sites to get to know about the deadlines and the waiting lists. I would also recommend that you sign up for the ALAWORLD discussion list so that you can get the same announcements about course information.
